Editorial policy
Every guide on this site is written to help someone in the Knoxville area fix a heating or cooling problem safely, or make a good decision about which HVAC contractor to hire. This page explains how the guides are researched, which sources they rely on and how mistakes get fixed.

Who writes the guides on this site?
The guides are written and reviewed by the Knoxville HVAC Services editorial team. The team is not an HVAC contractor, does not employ technicians and does not inspect homes or equipment. Guides describe general heating and cooling practice based on official sources, and they say so when a decision depends on the contractor who looks at your system.
What sources do the guides use?
Facts come from government and official sources wherever possible, and each guide names its source in the text and links to it in a Sources line at the end. The main sources are:
- ENERGY STAR: maintenance, replacement, duct sealing and hiring a contractor.
- US Department of Energy: heat pump guidance and energy use figures.
- US EPA: the HCFC phaseout, including R-22, and Section 608 rules on handling refrigerant.
- Tennessee Board for Licensing Contractors: how contractors are regulated in the state and its free Verify a License tool.
- Census and climate figures: 2020 Census population and housing counts and NOAA climate normals, as reported on each town's Wikipedia article.
What will this site never publish?
- Prices or price ranges, because the contractor who sees your system sets the price
- Claims about availability, arrival times or after-hours service, which depend on the contractor
- Customer reviews, star ratings or testimonials
- Rebate or tax credit amounts, which change and depend on the program and the equipment
- Licenses, certifications, years in business or job counts for contractors we have not checked
- Local offices or addresses that do not exist
Photos on the site are illustrative. They do not show real local jobs, real technicians or real Knoxville homeowners.
How are guides reviewed and kept current?
Each guide shows the date it was last reviewed. A review checks every link, every number against its source, the local details and whether the advice still matches what ENERGY STAR, the DOE or the EPA say today. Guides change when a source changes, when a reader reports a problem, or when the review finds something out of date.
How do I report a mistake?
Use the contact page and tell us which page and which sentence is wrong, with a source if you have one. Confirmed errors are corrected and the review date is updated. We do not quietly change what a page means without updating that date.
How does this site make money?
Knoxville HVAC Services is a referral website, not an HVAC contractor. We do not employ technicians or repair, service or install heating and cooling equipment. When you call or send a request, we connect you with an independent HVAC contractor who may serve your area. Prices, timing, licenses, insurance and the work itself are between you and that provider. Confirm them directly before you agree to anything. Being paid for calls does not change what the guides say. The advice would read the same if no contractor paid for anything. See how referrals work.
